Purpose: This article will walk you though the "promotions" feature of the FanX platform and give you some insight into how the feature works and can be utilized.

What is a promotion?

A promotion is a piece of custom content that you can place on the home screen (or Gameday Offers page) of your FanX app. A promotion consists of a graphic, title, and body text at the minimum, but you can also add items such as audio streams, Youtube videos, links and more. You are allowed 4 promotion cards on the home screen of your app at any given time, though additional promotions can be housed in the "My Gameday Offers" page in the side menu, as shown below.

Promotion visibility: how to make sure your promotions show up in the app

When creating a promotion, there are a few settings you can adjust to configure how the promotion shows up in the app:

  • Priority: There are 4 promotion slots on the home screen of the app: High, Medium, Low, and Lowest.  You are allowed to have 1 live promotion in each slot.  That means in order to have 4 promos live on the home screen, each promotion would need to be set to a different priority
    • NOTE: if you set multiple promos to the same priority, only the most recent promotion will show on the home screen for that slot
  • Redeemable: You can also set a promotion's visibility to redeemable.  Promotions that are marked "redeemable" will show in the My Gameday Offers wallet
    • NOTE: if you set a promotion to "Redeemable", it can still live on the home screen as well if you've set the "Priority" field accordingly

Sample Use Cases

  • I want to create a promotion card that shows at the front of the home screen and also shows up on the My Gameday Offers page
    • Priority: HIGH
    • Redeemable: YES
  • I want to create a promotion that ONLY shows in the My Gameday Offers page
    • Priority: NONE
    • Redeemable: YES
  • I want to create a promotion that shows at the back of the home screen only; not in the My Gameday Offers page
    • Priority: EXTREMELY LOW
    • Redeemable: NO

Promotion Display Rules:

  • All active redeemable promotions display in the My Gameday Offers wallet
  • None of the active non-redeemable promotions will display in the My Gameday Offers wallet
  • At most, 4 active promotions will display at the bottom of the home page at a time (one in each priority slot)
    • If more than 1 promotion are set to the same priority, only the most recently published promotion will show on the home screen
  • Promotions can show up at the front of the home screen, the back, or anywhere in between. You can control the exact location of each promotion by setting the home screen card order.

Can promotions be scheduled to go out at certain times?

Yes. The backend portal allows you to schedule promotions and notifications to be pushed out at specific times. You can also set the duration of promotions to whatever you’d like so you can control exactly how long an offer will run in the app. A sample use case is shown below:

Let’s imagine that our Men’s Basketball team is playing a rivalry game at 6:00 PM tonight. We know there is going to be a good crowd, so we plan out a number of promotions to run through the app. So, that morning, I get into the portal and schedule the following promotions:

  • White out for tonight’s game! – Push to the app now – Leave in the app for 24 hours – Include a notification to fans
  • Panda Kitchen Coupon (show this coupon for 15% off) – Schedule to push at 2PM – Leave in the app for 4 hours – Include notification to fans
  • Last Minute Offer (show this at the ticket booth for a $5 ticket) – Schedule to push at 5:45 PM – Leave in the app for 30 minutes – Include notification to fans
  • 2nd Half Popcorn Offer ($1 popcorn until its gone!) – Schedule to push at 7:00 PM – Leave in the app for 90 minutes – Include notification
  • Bamboo Bar and Grill (post game happy hour) – Schedule to push at 8:30 – Leave in the app for 4 hours
  • Upcoming games and ticket deals – Schedule to push at 8:30 – Leave in the app for 48 hours (or until next home game)

This is an example of the kind of campaign you can schedule through the app, and you can do so well in advance of the actual game. Plus, to make things even easier, if you are going to be running the same (or similar) promotions for every MBB game, playbooks let you easily organize sets of promotions that can be scheduled for each game. You may want to have a playbook that you run for each sport’s home games. You may want to have a playbook that runs over Christmas or Spring break. There are many, many ways to utilize promotions and playbooks, so if you have ideas and are wondering about how to execute, our Customer Success Coaches are happy to offer advice and training!

In Arena Promotions:

In-Arena promotions will only show up for users who are at the specified arena. This functionality is important because we don’t want to be an annoyance to users that are following the game at home or on the go with any content that is only meaningful to people at the game. Here are some examples of cases to use “In-Arena” promotions:

  • Running a promotion for $1 popcorn in the second half
  • Running a promo that gives fans the chance to submit songs to play between innings at a baseball game
  • If there is a deal like “Show your ticket at Pandahouse Pizza for a free soda”

Promotion tap behavior:

One of the fields on each promotion is "Promotion Tap Behavior" which determines what happens when a user taps the promotion card.  The 3 options are:

  1. The app will open the Promotion detail page:
    • With this option, you will fill out a "description" field that will display when the user opens the promotion.  That page will have a graphic (or video) at the top of the page with the description showing below
  2. The app will open the provided URL in a web-view.
    • This option allows you to enter any URL and when users tap on the promotion, they will be taken to a Webview of that page
    • Use this option if you have content already existing online somewhere and you just want to direct people to that content through the app
  3. The app will navigate the user to a page in the app
    • Today, this option can be used to direct users to an in-app Trivia game, their ticketing integration (Ticketmaster, Paciolan, AXS), or you can link a promotion card to the FanX Rewards section, or the My Gameday Offers section.
